Arba Minch, Ethiopia – A delegation from the Tuberculosis Research Advisory Council (TRAC), led by Taye Letta, Head of the National TB, Leprosy, and Other Lung Disease Desk at the Ministry of Health (MOH), visited Arba Minch University. The University, in collaboration with the South Ethiopia Regional State Health Bureau, will host the upcoming 19th TRAC Annual TB Research Conference and World Tuberculosis Day (WTD) commemoration
During the visit, the delegation met with senior officials from Arba Minch University, the South Ethiopia Regional State Health Bureau and members of the conference organizing sub-committee in two separate meeting and discuss ways to ensure a successful event. Both sides presented updates on the preparations for the conference, scheduled to take place from March 20-23, 2024.
Mr. Taye highlighted areas that need the attention of the university and the regional health bureau, emphasizing that the event requires high-level engagement.
Dr. Ing. Abdella Kemal, President of Arba Minch University, expressed his enthusiasm for hosting the TRAC conference, describing it as a privilege for the institution. He assured that the university is fully prepared to meet expectations and deliver a successful event.
Fasil Tsegaye, Senior Tuberculosis and Global Fund Grant Advisor at MoH-Ethiopia, highlighted the outcomes of TRAC and the 18 conferences it has successfully organized so far, mentioning the major achievements made over the past 23 years.
Mena Mekuria, Deputy Head of the SNNP Regional Health Bureau, stated that his bureau will engage other offices of the regional administration in the preparation for the conference.
The grand national event is serving as a platform for knowledge sharing, engaging dialogue, and reaffirming commitments in the fight against TB in Ethiopia and beyond.
