The second phase of Tuberculosis (TB) research capacity building training has begun in Adama town, Ethiopia. This training, which emphasizes data analysis and manuscript writing, is a part of the ongoing TIFA-TCG project which focuses on enhancing TB Research Capacity and the TRAC’s Mechanism to inform the National TB Elimination Response of the nation.
Participants including TB focal personnel, researchers from health bureaus across all regions and city administrations of Ethiopia, as well as senior mentors selected from various higher learning institutions are taking part in the training.
12 researche teams are conducting TB Operational research in different parts of Ethiopia.
Professor Afework Kassu, TRAC Chairperson and Director General of AHRI, acknowledged the research teams for the considerable progress they have made despite numerous challenges. He also stated that the research outcomes could be crucial for TB programs in Ethiopia and its neighboring countries.
Mr. Taye Letta, the Head of National TB, Leprosy, and other Lung Disease Desk at the Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia, emphasized the significance of TB research in combating Tuberculosis. He also highlighted the increase in TB cases in Ethiopia following the COVID-19 pandemic. The NTBL head reassured that efforts are underway to reverse this challenge.
The training program is coordinated by the Tuberculosis Research Advisory Council (TRAC) and the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) in partnership with USAID and JSI.
