TRAC Award 2024 Honor Outstanding Contributors in the Battle Against TB in Ethiopia

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Tuberculosis Research Advisory Council (TRAC) held its annual awards ceremony to recognize individuals, regional bureau heads, and partner organizations for their outstanding contributions to the fight against tuberculosis (TB) in Ethiopia. The ceremony highlighted the dedication and innovation of these awardees in advancing TB control efforts and improving patient outcomes.

In a prestigious ceremony held during the 18th TRAC Annual TB research conference and WTD Commemoratio, the TRAC AWARD 2024 recognized outstanding individuals in the field of TB control. Among the esteemed winners were Dr. Wondwossen Amogne, Dr. Fikreselam Desalegn, and Mr. Basazinew Fantahun, who received the TRAC Award of Excellence in TB Clinical Care.

In addition, Dr. Mekonnen Aychluhim was honored with the TRAC Award of Excellence in TB Communications and Public Engagement, while Ramadan Awol received the TRAC Award of Excellence in TB Laboratory Services. S/r Emebet Silesh and Mr. Betiglu Legesse were celebrated for their exceptional TB Patient Support efforts.

Furthermore, Mohamed Ali was recognized for his contributions to TB Program Support, and Mr. Ahmed Mohammed received the TRAC Lifetime Services Award for his dedication to the TB and Leprosy Program. S/r Fikirte Abera was awarded the TRAC Award of Excellence in TB Program Leadership, and Dr. Bekele Fekade received the TRAC Lifetime TB Services Award.

Partner organizations were also recognized for their vital support in the fight against TB. The Ethiopian Thoracic Society, WHO HQ – Global TB Program, Volunteer Health Services (VHS), Missionaries of Charity, and USAID Ethiopia received awards for their outstanding contributions to ending TB in Ethiopia through technical support, evidence-based global policies, community services, and program support.

The TRAC Awards ceremony served as a testament to the dedication and collaborative efforts of these individuals and organizations in combating TB and improving public health outcomes in Ethiopia.

Dr. Gizachew Taddesse and Dr. Yishak Abraham were honored with the Best TB Research Abstract Award for their outstanding abstract presentation during the 18th TRAC annual TB research conference and WTD Commemoration which was held from March 22-24, 2024 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Health bureaus of Addis Ababa City Administration, Sidama regional state and Oromia regional state were also recognized for their outstanding performance in programmatic implementation of TBLLD Program.
